Research & Publications

Advancing knowledge through rigorous research at the intersection of technology, ethics, and human progress. Our work produces actionable insights for a more inclusive and sustainable world.

Knowledge That Drives Progress

We believe that rigorous, open research is the foundation of meaningful change. Our work combines academic rigor with real-world application, ensuring that every insight translates into actionable impact. From AI ethics frameworks to digital inclusion strategies, our research spans disciplines and borders.

Our research philosophy is grounded in three principles: openness, rigor, and relevance. We publish our findings under open-access licenses so that knowledge flows freely to those who need it most. We adhere to established research methodologies and subject our work to peer review. And we prioritize questions that have the potential to improve lives — particularly for underserved and marginalized communities.

We partner with academic institutions, policy organizations, and community stakeholders to produce research that is not only credible but also accessible and actionable where it matters most. Every publication, dataset, and framework we develop is designed to inform policy, guide practice, and inspire further innovation.

Our Research Focus Areas

Four interconnected pillars guide our research agenda, each addressing a critical dimension of technology-driven social impact.

AI Ethics & Responsible Technology

Developing ethical frameworks, bias mitigation strategies, and governance models to ensure artificial intelligence serves humanity equitably and transparently. Our work addresses algorithmic fairness, accountability mechanisms, and the societal implications of autonomous systems.

Digital Inclusion & Access

Researching affordable connectivity, digital literacy, accessible design, and technology solutions that bridge the digital divide for underserved communities worldwide, with a focus on last-mile delivery and sustainable deployment models.

Future of Work & Automation

Examining the impact of automation, remote work, and digital transformation on labor markets, workforce development, and economic opportunity across sectors. Our research explores reskilling pathways and inclusive growth strategies in an era of rapid technological change.

Healthcare Innovation

Investigating technology-enabled healthcare delivery, telemedicine, health data analytics, and equitable access to quality medical services in low-resource settings. Our work emphasizes community-centered design and scalable, low-cost interventions.

Planned Research Publications

Our research team is developing a series of papers exploring critical questions at the intersection of technology, ethics, and social impact. These publications are in development and will be released as completed.

Examining scalable healthcare innovations in low-resource settings, including telemedicine delivery models, community health worker digital tools, AI-assisted diagnostics, and data-driven policy recommendations for improving health outcomes in underserved regions.

Open Knowledge Commitment

We are committed to the principles of open access and open science. All research outputs produced by the Cotocus Foundation — including papers, datasets, frameworks, and tools — will be made freely available under Creative Commons licenses. We believe that knowledge should not be locked behind paywalls; it should flow freely to those who need it most, empowering communities, informing policy, and inspiring further innovation.

Our commitment extends beyond publication. We will publish preprints to enable early access to findings, share reproducible methodologies and code so that others can build on our work, and engage with the global research community through open dialogue, collaborative review, and publicly archived datasets. Wherever possible, we will involve community stakeholders in the research process itself — from problem definition to data collection to interpretation of results.

Research Collaborations Welcome

We actively seek partnerships with universities, research institutions, policy organizations, and independent researchers who share our vision of technology serving humanity. Whether you are interested in co-authoring a paper, contributing data or expertise, proposing a joint research project, or hosting a research fellow, we would love to hear from you.

We are particularly interested in collaborations that bring diverse perspectives to our research pillars — including researchers from the Global South, early-career scholars, practitioners with on-the-ground experience, and interdisciplinary teams that bridge technology and the social sciences. Together, we can produce research that is more rigorous, more relevant, and more impactful than any single organization working alone.
